Ocean Growth Security works to a health and safety system that covers every service we provide — guarding, cleaning, event staffing, traffic management and work at height. The system exists to protect our staff first, because a contractor whose people are injured is not a contractor who can deliver consistently.
Many of our clients are facilities managers, developers and building owners who are required to demonstrate that their contractors are managed safely. This page explains what we do and what documentation we can provide.
Risk assessment before work starts
Every site and every service begins with a risk assessment rather than a standard set of instructions. For a guarded building, that covers the post, the patrol route, lone working and the escalation route. For cleaning, it covers chemicals, wet floors, working at height and manual handling. For traffic management, it covers vehicle movement, pedestrian segregation and the marshal’s own position. For events, it covers crowd density, access control and emergency egress.
Assessments are reviewed when the work changes — a new phase of construction, a change of use, or an incident — rather than filed once and forgotten.
Training and induction
No member of staff works a site unsupervised before they have been inducted on it. Induction covers the layout, the hazards specific to that building, the emergency procedure, the reporting route and what they are not authorised to do. Role-specific training follows: working at height for façade and window work, chemical safety for cleaning, fire warden training for evacuation roles, and defensive driving for transportation.
Personal protective equipment
PPE is issued by us, matched to the task, and maintained. Where a client’s site has its own PPE standard — a construction site requiring specific footwear or head protection, for example — we comply with it. Equipment such as harnesses, lanyards and fall-arrest systems is inspected before use and subject to recorded periodic inspection.
Working at height and in heat
These are the two hazards most specific to Dubai, and both are managed deliberately:
- Working at height — façade cleaning, window cleaning and high-level work use rope access, gondolas or platforms with certified technicians, permits, and a rescue plan in place before anyone goes up. A fall-arrest system without a rescue plan is not a safe system.
- Heat and humidity — exterior work is scheduled for early morning or night during the hottest months, with hydration, shaded rest breaks and acclimatisation for new staff. Heat illness is a predictable risk, not an accident.
Incident reporting and investigation
Every incident, near miss and unsafe condition is reported, including the ones with no consequence. Near misses are the cheapest information a security or cleaning operation gets, and the ones most often discarded. Reports are investigated in proportion to severity, with findings turned into a change — to a procedure, a post order, an assessment or a piece of equipment — rather than filed.
What clients receive
Clients who need to demonstrate contractor management can be provided with our health and safety policy, method statements and risk assessments for the services being delivered, staff training and certification records, equipment inspection records, and incident reports relating to their site.
